Developed by Digital Cosmos, this personalization tool goes beyond simple decoration. It deploys small, autonomous mascots—known as Shimeji—directly onto your screen. These characters don’t just sit there; they actively interact with every element you see. They will walk across your keyboard, climb the edges of your browser window, hang from icons, and even steal objects from the web pages you are browsing. The experience is entirely driven by physics-based animations, making each character’s movement feel organic and responsive.

Core Functionality and Control

The app operates on a simple permission-based overlay system. Once activated, the Shimeji characters exist as a floating layer above your other applications. You have direct, tactile control over their behavior. You can grab a character with your finger and drag it to any location on the screen. They will then react to that new environment. The characters are programmed with multiple movement states: they can walk across flat surfaces, crawl along edges, climb vertical walls, and perform short leaps. The most distinctive feature is their ability to interact with content. You can allow a Shimeji to pick up images, text snippets, or icons from your current app or website and carry them around the screen, creating a chaotic but entertaining dynamic.

Setup and Character Management

Upon your first launch, the interface presents a clean, minimalist layout. You will see only a grid of grey "+" buttons. Tapping any of these buttons opens the built-in image gallery. Here, you can select your Shimeji characters. The free tier provides access to two characters immediately. To expand your roster, you must navigate to the in-app Shimeji shop. This shop offers a variety of additional characters, each with unique visual designs and behavior patterns. Upgrading allows you to deploy up to six characters simultaneously on your screen. After making your selection, you finalize the setup by tapping the confirmation button in the top-right corner of the app window. This step grants the necessary overlay permissions and activates your chosen characters.

The characters operate in real-time, responding to your screen changes. If you open a new app or scroll a webpage, the Shimeji will adapt their pathfinding to the new layout. Each character has a unique behavior set, meaning one might be a climber while another is a thief. The app runs silently in the background, requiring no active input from you after initial setup. You simply observe the interactions as you normally use your phone for browsing, messaging, or gaming. The lack of intrusive advertisements ensures an uninterrupted viewing experience, especially with the Turbo upgrade which removes all ad placements and unlocks additional performance optimizations.
