About app on{X}
Your phone is smart. Now make it smarter.
on{X} by Microsoft Corporation transforms your Android device into an automated command center, letting you program it to react to real-world triggers—time, location, battery level, network state, and more. This is not a simple launcher or a wallpaper pack. This is a rules-based automation engine that executes predefined actions without manual input.
Core automation capabilities
The app operates on a simple trigger-action logic. You define conditions (e.g., "Wi-Fi connected to 'Home' network") and assign actions (e.g., "Set ringtone volume to 30%"). The engine runs in the background, constantly monitoring sensor and system data. Supported triggers include:
- Time-based: Sunrise, sunset, specific hours, or recurring intervals
- Location-based: Geofence entry/exit using GPS or network triangulation
- Device state: Battery level thresholds, charging status, screen on/off, docked/undocked
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi SSID match, Bluetooth device pairing, cellular network type change
- Sensor events: Proximity, accelerometer movement, light level changes
Actions cover nearly every system setting and app control:
- Audio: Ringtone, media, alarm, and notification volume levels; silent/vibrate/normal modes
- Display: Brightness level, auto-brightness toggle, screen timeout duration
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi on/off, Bluetooth on/off, mobile data toggle, airplane mode
- Messaging: Send SMS, compose email, post to social media via intent
- App control: Launch an app, kill a process, open a specific URL
- User interface: Show a notification, speak text aloud via TTS, lock the screen
Rule management interface
You create, edit, enable, and disable rules from a clean list view. Each rule displays its trigger summary and action list. Long-press to duplicate, share, or delete. A built-in debug mode logs every rule firing event, showing timestamps and trigger data for troubleshooting.
Scripting for power users
Beyond simple condition-action pairs, on{X} offers a JavaScript-based scripting engine. You can write custom scripts that access device APIs directly—reading sensor values, performing calculations, and chaining multiple actions with conditional logic. This opens possibilities like:
- Logging GPS coordinates every 10 minutes to a file
- Sending an email alert when battery drops below 20% and you leave a geofence
- Automatically switching to 2G network when screen is off to save power
Key advantages
- No root required – Works on stock Android 10 and above
- Background persistence – Rules survive app restarts and device reboots
- Low battery footprint – Engine uses minimal resources when idle
- Export/import rules – Share your automation setups via .json files
- Community library – Access user-submitted scripts and rule templates
Quick-start examples
- Set ringer to silent when you enter work geofence (8 AM–5 PM only)
- Turn off Wi-Fi and lower brightness when battery hits 15%
- Launch Spotify and set media volume to 70% when you connect car Bluetooth
- Send a "I'm on my way" SMS when you leave home after 6 PM
- Speak the current time aloud when you pick up the phone between 2 AM and 6 AM
Download mobile app now and take full control of your device's behavior without touching a single setting manually.
Heads up: you'll need wifi for most features. Some cool stuff is extra.
