About app Jarduino
You are a gardener, but your thumb is anything but green. You have the ambition for a lush vegetable patch or a vibrant flower bed, but life—and a lack of consistent watering—keeps getting in the way. Jarduino bridges the gap between your intention and your plants’ survival. This isn't a simulation; it's a remote monitoring and control system for your real-world garden. Using an Android device (4.2+), you transform your phone into a central command for the soil, the sun, and the water.
How the System Works
Jarduino is designed to interface with a custom-built, open-source hardware controller (typically an Arduino-based board) you assemble. The mobile app acts as your dashboard, receiving real-time sensor data and sending commands back to the garden. The core workflow is built around three pillars: sensing, decision-making, and actuation.
- Real-Time Sensor Dashboard: View live readings from soil moisture sensors, ambient temperature sensors, and light intensity sensors. The app displays this data in a clear, at-a-glance format, allowing you to see exactly when your soil is dry or when a frost is approaching.
- Automated Irrigation Scheduler: Set custom watering schedules based on sensor thresholds. Define a soil moisture percentage at which the pump should activate, and a second threshold at which it should stop. The app handles the logic, sending the command to the controller.
- Manual Override & Direct Control: Take direct command of your garden's actuators. Use on-screen buttons to turn a water pump on or off manually, or to activate a fan or grow light, bypassing the automated schedule for immediate intervention.
Core Interface Features
The user interface is optimized for quick, data-driven decisions. The main screen avoids clutter, presenting only the most critical metrics. Navigation is tab-based, separating live data from history and configuration.
- Historical Data Logging: The app logs every sensor reading to your device's internal storage. You can scroll through days of data to identify trends, such as how quickly your soil dries out in direct sun versus partial shade.
- Customizable Alerts & Notifications: Set push notifications for critical events. Receive an alert if soil moisture drops below a critical level, if the temperature exceeds a safe range, or if the system loses connection to the controller.
- Multi-Zone Management: If your garden has separate areas (e.g., vegetables vs. herbs), you can configure the app to manage multiple sensor and actuator zones independently, each with its own schedule and thresholds.
Key Technical Advantages
This is a tool for the tinkerer and the pragmatic gardener alike. The primary advantage is the elimination of guesswork. You stop watering on a schedule and start watering based on data. The system is also fully offline-capable, relying on a direct Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi connection between your phone and the controller, meaning you don't need a cloud subscription or internet connection for basic operation.
We suggest trying the app first with a simple single-sensor, single-pump setup to understand the data flow. Once you are comfortable, you can scale the system to manage a complex, multi-zone greenhouse.
Consider downloading Jarduino if you have basic electronics assembly skills and a desire to automate the repetitive, data-driven parts of plant care.
Disclaimer
*Jarduino requires a separate, user-assembled hardware controller and compatible sensors/actuators (not included). The app provides a user interface for control and monitoring but does not include the physical components of the irrigation system. Continued use of GPS or Bluetooth can decrease battery life. This app is designed for Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and higher. The developer, ASV, is not responsible for water damage resulting from malfunctioning hardware or user error. An internet connection may be required for initial firmware updates or cloud backup features, but is not mandatory for core functionality. In-app purchases may be available for extended data logging or advanced charting features.
