Stop Guessing, Start Cutting: Master CNC Milling Without the Scrap Metal
Learning G-code and CNC milling operations on a real machine is expensive, risky, and wastes materials on every mistake. A single wrong toolpath can break an end mill, ruin a workpiece, or even damage the machine itself. This mobile app eliminates those risks entirely by providing a fully interactive, physics-based simulation environment. You can experiment with feeds, speeds, and tool changes without any physical consequences, turning your smartphone into a portable training lab for vertical machining centers.
Core Features and Functional Tools
-
Full G-Code Interpreter and Editor: Load, edit, and execute standard RS-274 (G-code) programs directly on your device. The simulator parses modal commands (G00, G01, G02/G03), canned cycles (G81-G89), and subprogram calls (M98/M99) with correct modal state tracking. You can step through code line-by-line or run continuous simulation, with visual highlighting of the current block.
-
3-Axis Vertical Mill Simulation: The virtual machine replicates the kinematics of a typical 3-axis vertical machining center (X, Y, Z linear axes). The spindle, tool holder, and workpiece are rendered in real-time 3D. You can rotate, pan, and zoom the camera to inspect the cutting process from any angle, including a top-down "operator view" and an isometric perspective.
-
Realistic Material Removal Visualization: The workpiece surface updates dynamically as the virtual tool moves along the programmed path. The simulation uses a voxel-based or height-map algorithm (depending on device capabilities) to show actual stock removal, including stepover marks, scallop heights, and wall finishes. You can see the difference between a roughing pass with a flat end mill and a finishing pass with a ball nose end mill.
-
Tool and Material Library: The app includes a pre-configured library of common milling tools (flat end mills, ball end mills, drills, chamfer mills) with standard dimensions, number of flutes, and material recommendations. You can also create custom tools by specifying diameter, length, flute length, and tip angle. Workpiece materials range from aluminum and mild steel to brass and acrylic, each with default cutting speed and feed rate suggestions.
-
Collision Detection and Error Reporting: Before you run any program, the simulator checks for potential collisions between the tool, tool holder, workpiece, and machine table. It also identifies common G-code errors such as missing decimal points, invalid addresses, or out-of-range axis movements. Errors are displayed with line numbers and suggested corrections, allowing you to fix code on the fly.
-
Multi-Viewport Layout: The interface can display up to three synchronized viewports simultaneously: a 3D perspective view, a 2D top-down (XY) plot, and a 2D side (XZ or YZ) plot. Each viewport updates in real-time during simulation, giving you complete spatial awareness of the toolpath relative to the stock geometry.
-
Adjustable Simulation Speed and Feed Override: You can control the simulation speed from single-step mode (one block at a time) up to 10x real-time speed. Additionally, a feed rate override slider lets you simulate different cutting conditions—slowing down to inspect a tight corner or speeding through rapid moves.
-
Program Import and Export: Load G-code files from your device storage, email, or cloud services (Google Drive, Dropbox). After simulation, you can export the verified program back to a file, ready to transfer to a real CNC controller. Supported formats include plain text (.nc, .txt, .cnc) and Fanuc-style format.

Technical Disclaimer
This application requires an active internet connection for initial download and optional cloud file access. The full feature set is available with a one-time in-app purchase; the free version includes limited tool library entries and a maximum program length of 200 lines. Device performance may vary based on processor and GPU capabilities; complex simulations with large stock models may exhibit reduced frame rates on devices with less than 2GB RAM.
