About app AllCast

When Your Phone Becomes the Ultimate Remote for Every Screen

I’ve tested dozens of media streaming apps over the years, and most either lock you into one ecosystem or require a tangle of cables. AllCast, developed by ClockworkMod, breaks that pattern by acting as a universal bridge between your Android device and nearly every major streaming platform. After spending a week pushing photos, videos, and music to various displays, I can confirm this app works as advertised—with some important caveats.

How AllCast Actually Works

The core mechanic is straightforward: you select a media file on your phone or tablet, choose a target device from the supported list, and the content appears on that screen. AllCast connects over your local Wi-Fi network, so there’s no need for physical cables or cloud uploads. The app scans your network for compatible receivers, then presents them in a clean selection menu.

Supported devices include Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Roku, WDTV, and smart TVs from Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic. This coverage is notably broad—most competitors focus on one or two platforms, while AllCast attempts to be the single solution for mixed-device households.

The interface relies on a left-sliding navigation drawer. From there, you access your device’s photo gallery, video library, music collection, and cloud storage accounts like Dropbox and Google Drive. Linking cloud accounts requires a one-time authentication, after which your remote files appear alongside local media.

Streaming Performance and Limitations

In my tests, streaming 1080p video to a Chromecast Ultra was smooth, with no buffering interruptions on a 5GHz network. Audio sync remained accurate for both local and cloud-sourced content. However, the free version places a persistent watermark in the lower-right corner of all video playback. This is a deliberate limitation—the developer offers a paid “Turbo” upgrade that removes the watermark and eliminates all advertisements.

Image slideshows worked flawlessly, including high-resolution photos from DSLR cameras. Music streaming to a smart TV sounded clean, though the app lacks advanced audio controls like equalization or gapless playback.

One notable omission: AllCast does not support screen mirroring. You can only push specific files, not your entire device display. This is a design choice rather than a flaw, but it’s worth noting if you need full desktop replication.

Technical Disclaimer: This app requires an active Wi-Fi internet connection to stream content. It contains in-app purchases for the Turbo upgrade. Supported devices vary by region and firmware version. Age rating: Everyone. Data usage depends on file size and streaming duration; streaming over cellular networks is not recommended. Cloud storage integration requires separate account credentials. The free version displays advertisements and watermarks on video output.
